Happy New Year to everyone!

Congratulations and thanks to Alan Zaunbrecher for all his hard work as president last year. He and Sue Williams, past president emeritus, helped our association continue to grow to meet the needs of our members and our community. When I first served as president of the Covington Bar Association in 1987, there were fewer than 75 members. In 2011, 419 attorneys joined the Greater Covington Bar Association.

It’s time to renew your membership for 2012! Our association membership follows the calendar year, January 1 to December 31. We are keeping our annual dues at $45, but need to get more people involved. Talk to your friends and colleagues, and make sure they join. Attached is the 2012 Dues Notice and Application.

We are putting together another great year of affordable CLE. We will continue offering an hour of CLE following our regular monthly luncheons on the third Friday of every month, except October, when we will host a day long CLE, and December, when we have our Christmas party. Payment options are on the dues notice, which is attached. We will offer an hour of both Ethics and Professionalism following our November luncheon, and another hour of each at our all day CLE in October.

We will again offer a full day of Family Law CLE in April. Watch your e-mail for the full schedule and registration details.

Our first 2012 luncheon is January 20, 2012 at noon at Dakota Restaurant. Guest speakers Daniel A. Oppenheim and Mary M. Taylor will present “Holiday Hangover – An Overview of Current Bankruptcy Law from the Perspective of Creditor and Debtor”.

Mark your calendars now for the rest of the monthly meetings: February 17, March 16, April 20, May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21 and November 16.

Be prepared to hear a constant plea for more active participation in the Pro Bono Project. We have much to be thankful for, and there’s no better way to give back to the community than using our education, training, and experience to assist someone less fortunate with a legal problem.

Finally, be sure to visit our website, www.covingtonbar.org for regular updates and contact information. Our Executive Director, Judy Walz and all the officers look forward to making 2012 a great year for our association.
